Date: October 7, 2023 Location and Time:       31785 Yucaipa Blvd., Yucaipa; 9:00am (Archery)       Yucaipa Community Park; ~10:30am Site Fee: $1 This will be our regular tournament for archery, arts, and combat. As normal, we will start the day with our archery tournament in the back lot at 31785 Yucaipa and then continue with the balance of the event at Yucaipa Community Park around 10:30 depending on how long archery runs. Archery The return of the cyclops! Because no one struck the cyclops in its eye, it has returned to wreak havoc again. Our scouts have reported that it appears to be wearing a strange orange helm which may make it harder to land a clean blow with our arrows but I have faith in our archers. Combat (TBA) Arts/Collegium This month we will be looking at the care and feeding of medieval mustards. There are several recipies with various methods which we will consider with a "hands on" opportunity to mix your own mustard from period spices. Try not to poison your friends.

I am attempting to find a good way to organize. For the moment I will be collecting research sources as replies to this post which should allow for searching through the forum's search functions. If someone finds a link has died please let me know. Also, if you find a good source please feel free to add it.

Date: May 18, 2023 Time: Setup 5:00pm, presentation starts 5:45-6:00pm Location: 34450 Stonewood Dr., Yucaipa, CA 92399 We have been invited to put on a demo for the archery club at a school in Yucaipa. This will be an evening demo on a Thursday so I understand scheduling may be difficult but anybody who can make it out would be appreciated. This also would count as an archery demo which is one of the harder demo points to collect. The demo will be primarily presentation show and tell style in conjunction with the end of the year dinner for the club. Presentation will be on the crossbow and we are looking at including some general archery information. It would be great to have people who can assist in showing the various items around to the participants and have some short talks on other topics. After the presentation, we are planning on trying to get outside, armor up a few combatants in light armor, and let the kids try some combat archery on moving targets. People to help organize and safety marshal for this part of the demonstration will be necessary. If there are any questions, or anybody wants to work with me in doing part of the presentation please reach out and we can coordinate.

As some of you may recall, we did a class on pewter casting of pilgrim's badges. I have attached sample documentation for this project so that anybody who wants to use it can access. Some of the specifics of the project will need to be changed to match but the background information should be very re-useable. I will attempt to answer any questions added in the comments.

Dates May 27-29 Location: 13000 Mile High Ranch Road, Oak Glen, CA This is one of our larger camping events where members of the various subdivisions of the Southwest US come together for the weekend. There will be group combat scenarios, tournaments for archery, combat, and arts, camping and good company. More details are coming, we normally setup camp Friday afternoon/evening, the war events run on Saturday and tournaments on Sunday but there is always a potential for changes. This is a less developed site than Canyon RV. There is water but it is well water so attendees may want to bring extra water with them. Flushing toilets for the ladies. Portables available for gentlemen. No shower but we're not that far from civilization. There are no permanent fire pits but we can bring portables. If you do make sure to also have a fire extinguisher with you. Additional details will be added as we put them together.

Date: May 13, 2023 Location and time: 31785, Yucaipa Blvd., Yucaipa; 9:00am (Archery) Yucaipa Community Park; ~10:30am Site Fee: $1 Our May Crown Tournament will be back on the regular second Saturday which is the 13th. The event begins at 9am with archery at 31785 Yucaipa Blvd., Yucaipa. Once archery is completed will will move to Yucaipa Community Park with a nominal start time of 10:30am depending on how long archery takes. Archery May 3rd was Machiavelli's birthday back in 1469. While some of his ideas were quite good he is often look on with disfavour due to his pragmatic and somewhat, well, Machiavellian, suggestions. Archery will be based on the assassination of your political opponents, which is excused as long as you're the noble in power. We will do a tree style advancement with the targets being a set of outlines representing politicians. Half will be one color, half another. The archers pick a color and then attempt to shoot more of their opponent's color. Each round will be a flight of 6 arrows with ties resolved by increments of 2 additional arrows. Combat (To be announced) Arts In addition to any individual arts projects being turned in, we will do a project on the staff sling. I have spare material for the sling pouch and string but I'm going to ask people to bring their own stick. Through my own testing, I would recommend at least 3/4 of a inch thickness as there is a lot of power and thinner staves can snap and at least 4 feet long. After construction, we can have a slinging contest. I am also encouraging anybody who is going to Banner war to try and get an arts project together for the war. Arts points can win a war and this is our opportunity to represent Esperance. I will bring along materials related to various projects and will try to help anybody who needs it with getting a project together and doing documentation. Lunch In the interest of community building, we will get back to potluck lunches. Either myself or another poor soul will be posting to coordinate so we don't end up with 20 desserts.

While not as evoking as "winter is coming" it is that time of year when memberships need to be renewed. If you have already done this, good job, you're ahead of the game. If you just signed up you should be good through the next year. If there are any issues with the process or circumstances let me know and I will do what I can to assist. For most of us, the deadline to renew is April 1.

Date/Time: April 28-30, 2023 Location: Yucaipa Regional Park Site Fee: $2/person Our 2023 Crown War will be at Yucaipa Regional Park (Not community, the big one this time) April 28-30. We have campsite "C" reserved for our use in the Tent Camping Area. A map is included at the bottom of this post. We can setup anytime after 3pm on Friday and checkout is 11:30 Sunday. War and tournament will be conducted on the 29th. I will include details on events below as time allows. We have an access code which I will provide to anybody via direct message, phone, etc. The park allows dogs although they have an additional $1 fee for each dog. Archery Based on my review of relevant rules and ordinances, we should be able to do target archery assuming we find a space to safely set it up. War archery will be "closest to the peg" out of 6 arrows. Tournament will be a "last archer with an arrow" shoot. Each archer will have a set number of arrows to start. For each round all archers shoot their arrows. Any arrow not within the target area is "lost." When only one archer has at least one arrow, we will have our winner. Ties will be re-shot with the same number of arrows that the tied archers had going into the round. Combat (Details to come) Arts In the works, in addition to any tournament submissions, is a collegium on firestarting. Feast Tentatively looking at a feast Saturday evening.
